Separated Overfire Air Systems
The most cost effective way to cut NOx by half or more
Since the early ‘90’s BHI-FW has successfully completed over 70 Tangential Low NOx (TLN) conversions with Separated Overfire Air (SOFA). Our typical scope of supply includes:
- Complete redesign of every compartment in the main windbox
- Waterwall tube openings for admission of SOFA
- SOFA Windboxes with nozzles, dampers, linkages and drives
- Ductwork, hangers, expansion joints and steel as needed to route secondary air to the SOFA windboxes
- Platform steel, catwalk, ladders, etc. as needed to retain access
- Main windbox damper drives and positioners if needed
- Drawings, Instruction Manuals, SAMA’s, PID’s, Wiring diagrams as needed to support installation, operation and maintenance

The results speak for themselves
- Up to a 70% reduction in NOx from the units uncontrolled baseline
- Many PRB units that operate consistently below 0.15 lb/MMBtu
- For PRB especially, the TLN conversion results in very little increase in UBC or CO
- TLN’s have little to none measureable impact on steam temperatures or control range
